Zinc and Alaskan Malamutes

Can you give me a break down of the ingredients in MBS as I have an Alaskan Malamute with possible zinc deficiency that’s been on this product for 2 weeks? I’m starting to see a skin issue with his nose. This breed is prone to zinc deficiency so I’m trying to do a process of elimination.

The condition related to Zinc in Alaskan Malamutes and Siberian Huskies is a dysfunctional disease and not a true deficiency (also reported in Dobermans and Great Danes). Malabsorption in the intestine (with Malamutes shown to only absorb about 25% of Zinc in the diet, so availability of Zinc is important) or possibly, a problem with metabolism of Zinc is proposed to be the actual problem.

Supplementing these dogs with oral or IV Zinc is not effective.
Skin lesions have been seen with oestrus, severe stress and severe diarrhoea.

High Calcium or phytate (in plants) levels in the diet may exacerbate the condition by interfering with the Zinc in the diet. Additionally, excessive vitamin and mineral supplementation has been implicated in Zinc deficiency.

Dynavyte MicroBiome Support (MBS) may aid digestion and contains trace amounts of Calcium (440 mg/litre, 20 ml of Dynavyte MBS contains 88 mg) and Zinc (<0.5 mg/litre, 20ml of Dynavyte MBS contains less than 0.01mg), insufficient to be a problem for this condition. The Calcium NRC requirements for a 25 kg dog being 1250 mg /day (Dynavyte MBS contains 7% of the daily amount) and a 50 kg dog 2500mg (Dynavyte MBS drops to 3.5% of the daily amount).

Dynavyte MBS contains Bacillus subtilis natto that has been shown to produce phytases (enzymes capable of breaking down phytates) possibly benefiting where phytates may be high.
Please always consult your veterinarian regarding a clinical condition and for any updated information regarding this particular condition (your Malamute may need to see a skin specialist).
